The Democratic Alliance today said it was
revealed that one out of two students who qualify for funding from the National
Student Financial Aid Scheme will not receive it due to a shortage of
funds.
The DA said this is worrying as it means 50
percent of students who qualify for entrance to university and FET colleges
will be denied access.
This was revealed at a presentation at the
Standing Committee on Appropriations at Parliament today.
DA MP of Higher Education Annelie Lotriet
said DA believes they can be more creative or they can really look at ways they
can prevent them from being excluded.
“The country cannot afford to have 50% of
students not to having access to higher education. Lotriet added.
