Four Pietermaritzburg policemen and a supplier have been arrested for alleged corruption involving procurement of goods valued at almost R500 000.

Police say the arrests follow an investigation into the alleged tampering of crime statistics in the region.

The policemen based at the Mountain Rise police station, were removed from the station last month to ensure a smooth investigation into the allegations.

Police say the four faced 51 counts of fraud and corruption and more charges may be added.

The suspects will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s court on Monday.
