Hex River Valley not a disaster area

Heavy rains and hailstorms hit the De Doorns region last week. The rivers were flooded and grape farms were affected.

The Western Cape Agriculture Department said today there is no need to declare the Hex River Valley a disaster area.

The Agricultural department`s Wouter Kriel said there is a lot of damaged caused by the storms but not on a level that the area can be declared a disaster area.

MEC for Agriculture Gerrit van Rensburg visited the area and spoke to the affected farmers.

Mr van Rensburg promised the farmers that engineers will look at the affected areas and the roads that were flooded .
