The Western Cape Traffic Department held 24
roadblocks during the weekend on the national and main routes.
A total of 2 850 vehicles were stopped and
1 215 drivers tested for alcohol. 11 Drunken drivers were arrested with the
highest reading peaking at 1.04 mg/l.
One driver was arrested for taxi permit
related issues.
Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said
that the total amount of fines issued was R234 000; and 31 091 vehicles
were tested for speeding.
“We prosecuted 4 063 drivers for
exceeding the speed limit, with the fastest speed recorded at 176 km/h n a 100
km/h zone Africa added.
