The Western Cape Education Department said that officials have been mandated to help deal with the late registration at schools in the province.

Six schools are due to be opened in the province, four of which are high schools and two primary schools.

Spokesperson for the Department Paddy Attwell said that at any time that a small population of learners moves at the beginning of the year it is important to make plans for them.

“We have in fact placed more than 99 percent of the learners at the moment, but we are expecting new arrivals as it always happens; we have planned for that, as we have 50 mobile classrooms in reserve to if we see the need toaccommodate learners” Attwell added.
