A light aircraft accident claims the lives of two people

Two people were today declared dead this is after the light aircraft they were traveling in crashed in Richmond. 

It is believed that the aircraft went missing shortly after taking off in Pietermaritzburg and ER24 together with the Pietermaritzburg SAP K9 Search and Rescue Unit embarked on a search for the aircraft.

Late last night the search was called off due to poor visibility and rain. 

ER24 Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said the search commenced this morning and an aircraft which went over the area noticed the crashed aircraft and radio the information through.

Vermaak added that 45km outside Pietermaritzburg in a sugarcane field paramedics found the wreckage, and when paramedics arrived they found that two people were trapped in the aircraft and they sustained fatally injuries and were declared dead on the scene.
