A policing expert says two murders in Cape Town this week bear the hallmarks of underworld hits.

On Monday night, prominent criminal defence attorney Noorudien Hassan was shot dead in a car outside his Lansdowne home.

The following day, hotel manager Craig Mathieson was shot dead at a Sea Point hotel.

Policing expert Eldred de Klerk says there are signs both killings may be organised hits.

De klerk says What they are speculating at the moment is that the time of the killings happened quickly after each other, and it seemed to be very well planned and executed.

There seems to be no physical evidence.

Hassan represented alleged gangsters including Ralph Stanfield and Jerome Booysen.
