8-year-old kidnapped in Gasteville

An eight-year-old girl was kidnapped in Gatesville on Friday morning, while on her way to school.

The Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) issued an alert following the kidnapping, urging people to pray for the little girl's safety.

The girl, identified by the MJC as Abirah Dekhta, was allegedly taken by two armed men in a bakkie.

According to reports, a scholar transport was picking up kids in Amber Court in Yusuf Gool Boulevard when a white Nissan double cab pulled up behind them. It’s understood a man approached the driver and pointed a firearm at him. The girl was taken from the vehicle and the suspects fled the scene.

The police’s Joseph Swartbooi confirmed the incident and said they are investigating the matter.

"Kindly be advised that the incident in Gatesville this morning , Friday 04 November 2022, are under police investigation. Due to the sensitive nature of the investigation this office will not divulge any information that might jeopardise the investigation.’’
