Thirty-eight people were left injured when the bus they were travelling in, overturned on the N1 between the Rawsonville Weighbridge and the Huguenot Tunnel, on Saturday morning.

The Western Cape’s Mobility Department’s Jandre Bakker, was on its way to Cape Town. He added that of the 38, 3 patients were seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital. Twelve others were also taken to hospital for observation, and 17 others declined medical assistance.

Bakker said no fatalities were reported.

MEC Daylin Mitchell visited the scene and urged motorist to be cautious on the roads.

‘’While I am relieved that there were no fatalities, I wish like to remind the public that and public transport operators of the big responsibility they have by transporting human life.

‘’Public transport will remain a priority to me in the lead up and into the festive season, and I’m issuing a stern warning to all operators - we will have a zero-tolerance approach to compliance,’’ he added.
