The Democratic Alliance said it was shocked by the reports of the death of Happy Sindane this morning.

DA Spokesperson Mmusi Maimane said that he has always had empathy for Sindane and his struggle with understanding his own identity, as many South Africans tackle the same issue.

Maimane said that the police must imvestigat the possibility of the imcident being a hate crime.

Maimane said that they commend and request that the police do a thorough investigation.

“If we could get to the bottom of any form of discrimination, and leave an opportunity for South Africans to mourn the death of Sindani but to also reflect on what it means to us as a country” Maimane added.
