The MEC for Human Settlements in the Western Cape Bonginkosi Madikizela has announced a clear housing plan for the residents of Kayamnandi informal settlement, near Stellenbosch in the Western Cape.

This comes after about 4500 were left homeless in a fire that killed two people last month.

Madikizela has been engaging with the Stellenbosch Municipality and the community to find an immediate solution to the housing need of the victims, along with a way to prevent a repeat of this disaster.

Ministry Spokesperson Bruce Oom said the planning involves superblocks of shacks will be organised and road will be build between them.

Oom added that at the overtime the site will have a proper service installed.

"Minister Madikizela is very happy that all the officials have worked very well together to ensure that people will have informal housing as the winter approaches and the risk of fires will be in due," said Oom.
