The video showing a Limpopo woman being assaulted by security guard has caused uproar.

The video is circulating on social media since Tuesday; the woman was being accused of shoplifting.

The National Education Health and Allied Workers Union said this is unacceptable as the country is fighting the abuse of women.

Nehawu`s Mike Shingange said the escalation of women abuse in the country has reached crises levels and needs urgent attention from government.

Shingange added that abuse in the country is shameful and points to a patriarchal society that has lost its moral fabric.

“ If the status of women and children is an indication of how the developed nation is then, ours is a society in deep trouble,” said  Shingange.
