A 39-year-old police officer has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for rape.

He had been on trial since 2010 for the rape of a woman who works at a clerk from a police station in Deneysville in the Free State.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate Spokesperson Moses Dlamini said the man was charged with three counts of rape, one count of negligent discharge of a fire arm and pointing a firearm.

“This policeman raped at a bush and rape her three times and then took her back to the police station” Dlamini added.

Dlamini also said that the officer was arrested by the IPID, and after the investigation the sentence was handed down.
