SA rank second last in the world in Maths and Science

The World Economic Forum Global Information Technology Report for 2013 ranks South Africa’s Maths and Science education the second last in the world.

The only country SA is above is Yemen.

South Africa is further ranked number 140 out of 144 countries in the quality of education systems and Internet Access in schools 113 in 143 countries.

Democratic Alliance Shadow Minister of Basic Education Annette Lovemore said this is unacceptable.

Lovemore added that we cannot limp from one international report to another indicating that we are at the bottom of the power to expect Maths and Science.

Lovemore further added that this is the future of our country, all of our development depend on our science and engineers of the future.

“We call on the minister to urgently intervene and put in place their task team to investigate what can be done and to make the changes that need to be made.” Lovemore added.
