The long Christmas weekend has left doctors and nurses in a rush at local government hospitals around Cape Town.

It is said that trauma units of the hospitals were crowded due to people needing to be assisted.

The most popular reports to hospitals are due to assaults and car accidents.

More patients are expected to be admitted to hospitals as the festive season proceeds.
Groote Schuur hospital has been particularly busy over the past few days.
