The Justice Project South Africa says it is illegal for traffic officials to confiscate, suspend and cancel driver’s licenses.
Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele has said that licenses of drivers arrested for breaking the rules of the road should be confiscated on the spot.
However the seizure of licenses can only be done by a court.
The government is increasing efforts to improve road safety. However, each of us has an important role to play to stop accidents which causes needless loss of lives and injuries.
Before embarking on a trip, test yourself to be familiar with your alcohol limit and test your vehicle. Wear your seatbelt at all times, rest every two hours after driving and take every safety measure to be safe on the roads.
