The death toll on South African roads has risen to more than 800 this month.

Authorities are concerned that there does not seem to be a decline in the number of drunk driving and speeding incidents.

Spokesperson for the Road Traffic Management Corporation Ashref Ismail says dangerous overtaking and careless and intoxicated pedestrians are also a major cause for concern.

A total of one-thousand-149 people lost their lives on the roads in December last year.
