Around 940-thousand Grade 1’s begin school today

As coastal schools open today around 940-thousand Grade One’s are expected to begin their school careers.

Education MEC’s and officials are expected to visit schools to wish the pupils and their parents well.

In the Western Cape, officials say the main focus areas this year will be on reading and writing.

The education department in the Western Cape will also focus on increased educator development and training and more parental involvement.
