A 34 year-old man arrested in Woodstock

The Woodstock Police on Monday arrested a 34 year-old suspect in Upper Queens Road Walmer Estate.

The arrested follows a spate of water meter and copper taps theft cases in the area.

Woodstock Police Station Spokesperson Hilton Malila said several cases of this nature have been reported to the police station.

Malila added that  during scheduled crime prevention patrols, when members spotted an unknown man sitting next to an open water meter drain cover in Upper Queens road Walmer Estate. 

Sergeant Malila further added that  Police officers noticed that it was the same man, they spotted earlier in Eden road , where  reports of a stolen copper tap was received.

“During a searching of the man, police recovered the reported stolen copper tap in his possession.

Police officers also noticed that the suspect tried to break off the water meter, where he was sitting,” Malila added.

The 34 year old suspect will appear in the Cape Towns’ magistrates’ court today on charges related to possession of stolen property and attempted theft.
