Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa will on Thursday release the annual crime statistics which will cover the 2012/2013 financial year.

Several requests have been made to release the stats more regularly.

Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato said in its current format the stats are at best six months out of date and at worst a year and a half too late.

Ministerial Spokesperson Greg Wagner said MEC Plato has called for a more regular release of the crime statistics. Tomorrow the National Police Minister will release the annual crime statistics.

But MEC Plato said more regular crime statistics will empower the communities to take the necessary preventative action and measures to ensure their safety and safety of their neighbourhood.
