The Western Cape Disaster Management and Fire-brigade Services officials says there was an improvement in the aerial fire fighting response to fires in the province.
Officials said that 28 aircrafts were deployed at six advantageously positioned airfields to assist in the response to blazes as part of their rapid attack plan.
The strategy allows for aerial support to be alerted within the first hour of a fire starting.
Disaster management’s chief Collin Deiner said that the idea is to support the district municipalities in providing a very quick service and to also protect certain vital infrastructure like power lines.
