Yesterday afternoon a 14-year-old boy was stung by bees and died while he was on a school hiking trip in Queenstown.
The school boys played with a beehive which disturbed the swarm of bees that attacked them said spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo. The swarm attacked the group of 180 students and teachers, stinging 12.
The school group was immediately rushed to the Queenstown private hospital where they received treatment for the bee stings and dehydration.
One of the boys unfortunately did not make it as he was highly allergic to bees. The boy died at the scene.
