No X–rated channels for Top Tv

The South Gauteng High Court has ruled that Top TV may not launch three pornographic channels.

Top TV cannot broadcast without the permission from the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa.

In September, the broadcaster applied to Icasa for permission to launch the 24-hour x-rated channels.

After a couple of months and without permission, the pay channel went ahead with the launch of Adult XXX, Playboy Europe and Private Spice.

Icasa spokesperson Paseka Maleka confirmed that there are public hearings underway and a final decision will be made at the end of January 2012.

It is said that a court order can only be submitted once the authority body makes a decision.
