Cape Traffic services conducted an operation in Belhar, to prevent illegal street racers from gathering at the Pentech train station.
They arrested 10 people for various offences ranging from drunk driving to negligent driving.
Mayoral Committee member for safety and Security JP Smith said, one of the drivers who was arrested, is the driver who collided with another vehicle while reversing down Erica Drive in Belhar, to get away from a roadblock with a taxi full of passengers.
Smith said 460 speeding offences were recorded along Robert Sobukhwe and Stellenbosch Arterial road with people coming to the event.
Smith added that they fined 203 unlicensed drivers and 46 vehicles were suspended for being un-roadworthy.
Along with that five other motorists were arrested for reckless and negligent driving
“it was very worrying for us that we still see behaviour of this kind and this kind of inconsiderate behaviour in a public place, this compels the city to take action.”, said Smith
