The Police and Prisons Civil
Rights Union has welcomed the decision handed down by the North Gauteng High
Court on the eight police officers found guilty for the murder of Mozambican
National Mido Macia.
Macia was found dead in a
holding cell at the Daveyton police station on the East Rand after being
dragged behind a police van in February 2013.
Popcru Spokesperson Richard
Mamabolo said they condemn any form police brutality.
“We would to urge the public not to necessary judge the police on the basis of this case. Majority of our police officers still remain committed to fighting crime and corruption and ensuring our communities are safer” Mamabolo added.
