24 roadblocks held over the weekend

The Western Cape Traffic Authorities held 24 roadblocks over the weekend.

The roadblocks were held on main and national roads in the province.

About 3 251 vehicles were stopped on those roadblocks.

852 drivers were tested for alcohol and 30 drunk drivers were arrested.

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said that one person was arrested for false documentation, one driver for reckless and negligent driving arrested.

“The total amount of fines was R139 300, we also checked the speed of 13 550 vehicles of which we prosecuted 1 491 drivers, the highest speed recorded in the Western Cape was a 178k/ph in a 120k/ph zone on the N1 between Paarl and Brackenfell,” added Africa.

He also said that there were 10 fatalities reported on the Western Cape roads over the weekend.
