Five were left displaced after a fire in Khayelitsha

A fire occurred at 21940 Amos Lengesi Crescent, 22 Section Mandela Park in Khayelitsha in the early hours of this morning.

Four emergency vehicles were dispatched from the Mitchell’s Plain, Lansdowne Road and the Khayelitsha Main fire stations to the scene.

Disaster Risk Management Centre Spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said fire-fighters managed to extinguish the fire that destroyed 2 shacks leaving 5 people displaced.

Solomons-Johannes also said the City’s disaster response teams will be assisting the affected households with clothing, blankets, food parcels and building material.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and is pending investigation by local authorities. No injuries were reported.
