A mother and child were killed in a fire that broke in Parkwood early on Sunday morning.

The started in a backyard dwelling located at 28 Parkwood Avenue
Four emergency vehicles from the Ottery and Wynberg fire stations
were dispatched to the scene that brought the fire under control.
Disaster Risk Management Centre Spokesperson Wilfred
Solomons-Johannes said the bodies of the deceased were burnt beyond recognition.
Solomons-Johannes said the victims are a mother and child that
have been identified as Veronica Abrahams 28 years and Riedewaan Slingers 4
years.
He added that the Chaplaincy provided trauma counseling to the
family following the tragic loss of the mother and child. The cause of the fire is
undetermined and is pending police investigation.
