The Western Cape government will be hosting the Africa Ports Evolution conference in Cape Town.

MEC of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Alan Winde said conferences like this present an important opportunity to grow the regional economy and create employment for residents.

The agenda for the conference is to discuss ways to reduce transit times for the export and imports of goods to and from Africa.

“This is a very important conference as we need to make sure that our ports become more competitive in the global environment, we need to make sure that we work together with our ports around the country and around the rest of Africa,” added Winde.

He also added that it is important that more businesses are attracted into the ports from the oil and gas industry, it is also imperative that the ports are connected to the hinterland through the rail and roads more efficiently and effectively.
