An elderly woman this morning was killed after the bakkie she was traveling in rolled on the R57 just outside Sasolburg.

It is believed that the bakkie which the woman’s daughter was driving in had mechanical problems which then caused the 26-year-old woman to lose control of the vehicle and it then rolled.

ER24 Spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said the bakkie landed on its roof at the side of the road and the canopy was ripped from the vehicle as it rolled.

“The woman was flung out when the canopy was ripped from the back of the bakkie, Paramedics arrived at the scene and they found out the daughter and the son managed to climb from the wreckage and they suffered no critical injuries, the woman suffered critically injuries and there was nothing more could be done to save her life, she was declared dead on the scene,” Jackson added.

Jackson further added that they were in such emotional shock that trauma counsellors were called to the scene to console them and the family.

Police are investigating the exact details of the accident.
