The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre said the city will be experiencing cold and wet conditions over the next few days. Heavy rain is expected over the Cape Metropole overnight today and into Wednesday.

Residents have been urged by the Disaster Risk Management Centre to exercise caution.

Disaster Risk Management Centre Head of Public Awareness and Preparedness Charlotte Powell urged motorists to keep a safe following distance and switch headlights.

Powell also warned residents to ensure that they exercise extra care around fires because that has been found to be the main cause of shack fires in the past.

The South African Weather Services has predicted heavy rains over the few days. Last week during the heavy rains houses in low lying areas were flooded and others were burnt by fires.
