Paramedics this morning responded to a serious collision in Paarl which involved two light motor vehicles just before the old tunnel.

It is believed the man in the Sierra overtook another vehicle and collided head on with another vehicle.

Both vehicles came to a standstill on opposite sides of the road.

ER24 Spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said that paramedics stabilised him while he was still in the vehicle and the Metro rescue team then used the Jaws of Life to remove the car from around him, thereafter he was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

“The woman who was driving in the other vehicle sustained moderate injuries and she managed to climb out of the wreckage of her vehicle by herself,” added Jackson.

She said that the woman was found seated on the side of the road and was in a stable condition she was also later transported to hospital for further care.

Jackson said that at this time investigations are still underway as to the cause of this serious accident.
