The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa has hit back at the Eastern Cape Department of Health, after it claimed that the report that was released last week about the challenges in the health sector was distorted.

Denosa Eastern Cape Secretary Koliswa Tota said the challenges in the report are issues that nurses have to work under including shortage of medication and equipment.

Tota said for the past three years the department of health in the province has not been employing nurses so therefore that is why there is a shortage.

“The conditions nurses have to work under in clinics and hospitals in the Eastern Cape are bad and the department is aware of these conditions but have not done anything to solve the problems” Tota added.
