On Tuesday night two men handed themselves over at the Bishop Lavis police station shortly after a shooting incident in Kalksteenfontein.
“Three men were standing on the corner of Salvia and Gesiggie Street when a white VW Polo drove past them in Salvia Street. Several shots were allegedly fired from the vehicle at the three men. A 23 year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to his face and passed away on the scene. The other two male victims sustained no visible injuries,” says police spokesperson Bernadine Steyn.
She adds that the two suspects from Hanover Park and Milnerton- are expected to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates court on Friday.
“The two groups allegedly fired several shots at each other. An 8 year-old girl (who was standing in the street) was injured in the crossfire. She was treated for a grazed wound to her head at a nearby hospital and released shortly afterwards,” says Steyn.
Four suspects were arrested for attempted murder. They are expected to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates court on Friday.
“The possibility that the motive for the two incidents might have been gang-related is being investigated,” adds Steyn.
