The scheduled Imbizo by the Provincial Government that was to take place on Monday focusing on safe schools due to the recent influx of violence at schools- has been postponed.
“This Imbizo is being held because we are all concerned about the safety of our children,” says Western Cape Education Department spokesperson, Gert Witbooi.
He adds that many stakeholders will be attending the event, “school governing body members, police forums, neighbourhood watch members, educators and principles”.
“We are looking forward to discuss with everybody how we can all make a contribution to develop a safe environment for learning and teaching,” says Witbooi.
MEC for Community Safety, Leonard Ramatlakane’s senior departmental officials will represent provincial government at the Imbizo.
Witbooi says he is not sure what the reason for the postponement is. He adds that a new date for the Imbizo is yet to be decided on.
