The culprits of these fines are all drivers if mini-bus taxis which the City cannot locate. According to City traffic spokesperson Searle Johannes the top culprit has 86 warrants of arrest”
“Our operation reclaim is to clamp down on them and we will be doing this on an on-going basis to try and curb this type of lawlessness on our roads,” says Johannes.
Councillor Ian Iversen the Chairperson of the City’s Finance Portfolio Committee the vehicles are all registered as Toyota mini-busses, but all the addresses on them are incorrect. He says as traffic services are ready to pounce on them but they still need more information.
“The City of Cape Town is committed to promote road safety by encouraging road users to abide by the law, These culprits may think they are getting away with their transgressions for now, but the City will not relent in its endeavours to catch them,” says Cllr Iversen.
