Compared to ten years ago, more than ten million children are receiving child support grants which are an increase of 1,200 percent.
The South African Institute of Race Relations said today that the latest survey showed the number of beneficiaries have increased since 2001.
Until 2008, only children up to the age of 13 received the grants.
In 2009 the age limit was upped to 14 and then in 2011 it was upped to 18.
Researcher Lerato Moloi said the decision had played a big role in increasing the numbers.
She added that not just the children on social grants, but generally the number of people receiving all types of social grants has increased by 33 percent.
