The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Fatima Cholan has urged mothers to register their newborn babies as soon as possible.
Cholan says it becomes problematic for the department if the children are not registered within the first 30 days of birth.
The deputy minister has visited Mowbray maternity Hospital earlier today.Cholan also handed over birth certificates to those mothers that had given birth early hours of New Years morning.
Cholan also further states that a facility has become available where parents can register their babies online which is available in 204 hospitals across the country.
She says it is important because the national population register needs to be secured.
