The Vredefort Dome Memorandum of Agreement
was signed by the relevant stakeholders on Saturday.
The agreement comes after four years of
negotiations between Environmental Affairs and Free State and North West landowners.
The agreement creates a formal partnership
to ensure that the integrity of the Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site is
maintained.
The site is now well on its way to becoming
South Africa ’s eighth world heritage
site.
This comes after Unesco decided that it
fulfilled the selection criteria for being of outstanding universal value to
humankind.
