Western Cape MEC of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Alan Winde today announced that the provincial Liquor Authority will launch a Social and Education Fund.
Winde said the fund will intensify the provincial government’s fight against liquor abuse.
The fund will also encourage behavioural change amongst liquor traders and consumers.
Winde said it will also look at trying to effect change around the behavioural change, he adds that it is noticeable in the safely home campaign much bigger fines much bigger police presence on drunken driving and at the same time what you would see is the heavy consciences in the fines as well as putting the names in the news paper.
He adds that people are definitely driving far more safely and that helps with bringing down road deaths and the department will continue with programmes like that to try and address the abuse of alcohol and the affect that it has on communities.
