Western Cape Education MEC Donald Grant has opposed an application by 18 schools for an urgent interdict to halt schools from closure.

Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said the WCED and MEC Grant considers the application to be without merit.

Casey added that the Department is questioning the original motivation behind launching the application.

Casey said “the WCED looks forward to the matter being determined by the court so that certainty of the implementation of our 2013 plan for the affected learners and their educators will be given prior to the commencement of the academic year”.
