A 35-year-old man was arrested by police on Wednesday, for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The police’s Joseph Swartbooi says officers were busy with crime
combatting activities when they saw ‘a suspicious looking man’ in London
Street, Portlands.
‘’The man fled when he saw the patrol vehicle which
necessitated the members to give chase on foot. They caught up with the
suspect, search him and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition which resulted
in the arrest of the 35 year old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed
firearm and ammunition,’’ said Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi.
Bush Radio News previously reported that in an unrelated matter,
an exchange of gunfire occurred in the same street on Wednesday. Officers
however arrested a man at Station Plaza, Town Centre. The other suspects got
away, no firearm was recovered.
