Man arrested in Mitchell's Plain for illegal firearm and ammunition

A 35-year-old man was arrested by police on Wednesday, for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The police’s Joseph Swartbooi says officers were busy with crime combatting activities when they saw ‘a suspicious looking man’ in London Street, Portlands.

‘’The man fled when he saw the patrol vehicle which necessitated the members to give chase on foot. They caught up with the suspect, search him and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition which resulted in the arrest of the 35 year old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,’’ said Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi.
