Bottle store in Worcester suspended for illegal trading methods

Western Cape MEC of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Alan Winde on Wednesday said a bottle store in Worcester has had its store license suspended.

This is after the owner withheld farmworkers documents as security for their alcohol debt.

MEC Winde said residents need to join the department in tackling alcohol abuse as they are the ones who have direct experience of illegal trading and are most affected by it.

Winde said that the liquor place was trading on accounts, keeping peoples ID books and their pension cards, which is illegal.

“They have been suspended until October and they have also received a R10 000 fine and there is also a legal case pending and obviously that will have its own outcome,” added Winde.
