A 53-year-old man who works as the
chairperson of the Housing and Planning Portfolio Committee at the Madibeng Municipality in
Brits was arrested for corruption.
He appeared in court on Tuesday and
is now expected to appear in court again on the 9th of November on
charges of corruption and resisting arrest.
Captain Pelonomi Makau said according to
information received, the accused asked for a bribe of R2 500, 00 from the victim in
exchange for business rights.
“The victim then lodged a complaint
to the police about the corruption that the suspect intended to pursue. It is alleged that the victim and the accused agreed to meet
on Tuesday, 3
September 2013 for an exchange of money at the victim’s
business in Brits".
This is where members of the
Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation and
Intelligence Collecting and Analysing arrested the accused with money suspected
to have been paid as a bribe, in his possession. ” Makau added.
