Abahlali base Mjondolo are battling the eThekwini municipality on evictions and demolitions in court regarding the Cato Crest Informal Settlement.

Abahlali said African National Congress members are threatening to attack its leaders in the area.

On Monday thousands of members of Abahlali base Mjondolo marched to the Durban City Hall to defend dignity and demand land and housing.

Abahlali base Mjondolo Spokesperson Bandile Mdlalose said their lawyers and the city were supposed to meet today as per the last court order to count and mark the shacks that are protected by the court orders.  However this did not happen as the representatives from the city did not pitch.

This follows months of fighting after residents of Cato Crest, particularly those who were evicted previously without being provided alternate accommodation.
