The Democratic Alliance has today called for a jobs debate in Parliament.

DA MP of Finance Tim Harris said in July the number of unemployed people in South Africa increased by 122 000 in the second quarter.

Harris said a debate is urgently needed to find a way to solve the unemployment rate in the country.

“We had numerous items of bad news in the past few weeks and the latest news is that we dropped off from the top of the global competitiveness index in Africa, we are now number 2 behind Mauritius,” Harris added.

He also said this is because of aspect like the quality of primary education where South Africa is standing 29th in Africa and 133rd globally.
