Development finance institutions had to be given a mandate to assist vulnerable industries.

This was a suggestion by Congress of South African Trade Union spokesperson Patrick Craven.

Cosatu is very concerned about the job loss in South Africa and has urged government to introduce guidelines for the country’s response to the financial crisis.

Craven said the job losses have a huge impact on the working class and on poor families.
