Bafana Bafana Head coach Carlos Alberto Parreira says it has been an honour and a privilege for him working with the national squad.

In an emotional address the coach announced he is now looking forward to some time off.

He is set to take a break until the end of the year, adding that if he were to coach in future, it would only be in Brazil.

The 67-year-old is the only man to have coached six World Cup teams.

He managed Brazil to championships at the 1994 World Cup, the 2004 Copa América, and the 2005 Confederations Cup.

Parreira is one of two coaches that has led five national teams to the World Cup: Kuwait in 1982, United Arab Emirates in 1990, Brazil in 1994 and 2006, Saudi Arabia in 1998 and South Africa in 2010.

The other coach, Bora Milutinović, reached this record when he led a fifth team in 2002.

South Africa’s victory against France is his only victory in the tournament with a non-Brazil team.
