Two people were killed and nine others sustained minor to serious injuries after a three car collision on the R27 near the Duinefontein turn-off in Melkbosstrand.
One of the victims was dead on arrival of paramedics, while another two were trapped inside one of the other vehicle involved in the crash.
“The two trapped patients were cut from the wreckage by rescue crews using hydraulic rescue equipment. One of the trapped patients died on the scene shortly after being extricated from the vehicle,” said ER24’s Tristan Wadeley.
The R27 was closed in both directions while emergency services attended to the scene.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
