Western Cape police in Vredendal have arrested a 35-year-old SAPS member on charges of corruption.
Spokesperson FC van Wyk says the arrest followed a sting operation by members of the local station.
Apparently the suspect received money from a person who was used by the police to buy drugs for the prisoners who appear in the Regional Court at Vredendal.
After investigating the circumstances, a trap was set and the arrest was made shortly after the money was exchanged.
Van Wyk says they will not allow criminals to act as police officers and urged members of the public to contact the National Anti-Corruption Hotline on 0800 701 701should they witness any members of SAPS involved in illegal activities.
